The best clubs in Bologna

The Emilian capital is the ideal place to spend a fun evening as long as you know the perfect places for nightlife.

There aren’t many of them in the historic center and you will probably have to travel to the suburbs by car. If you don’t have one, here you can find some tips on how to rent a car in Bologna. The alternatives are to rely on public transport or choose to call a taxi.

Numa

Located in the fairgrounds of the city, the structure looks like a warehouse and merges with the various structures and buildings of the fair district.

The style is typical of the warehouse, inside the rooms are large divided on different levels you will immediately find yourself in front of a large central dance floor where you can let off steam and dance. The hall is also often used for live music of various genres from funky to indie rock through to the Italian songwriter.

Inside there is also a restaurant area where you can satisfy your sudden appetite.

Qubò

This nightclub is located in the historic center in an unparalleled location a stone’s throw from the Asinelli Tower and Piazza Maggiore. The spaces available are not very large but considering that you are in the ancient “Prisons of Palazzo Pepoli” there is no complain.

The Qubò has several rooms and bars divided on three different levels. The evenings on the program are numerous and self-promoted events, private parties, birthdays, corporate events and much more are organized.

Cassero

Il Cassero is much more than just a club, it is the most famous LGBTI + center in Bologna and also hosts the provincial Arcigay committee. This space is dedicated to cultural projects, art exhibitions and social gathering activities.

In this extremely inclusive context, various themed evenings are developed, including the famous “Orsi in caccia” (Bears in hunting).

The Cassero is located within the Cavaticcio park in the area known as the Manifattura delle Arti. It is no coincidence that within walking distance you can find key places for culture such as the Cineteca di Bologna or the Bologna Museum of Modern Art (MAMbo).

The place is located right on the inner side of the avenues that delimit the passage between the city center and the first suburbs, it is not even too far from the train station which is about 10 minutes on foot.

Chalet dei Giardini Margherita

Surely one of the most popular places during the summer and on the days when the heat leads us to abandon the internal rooms of the premises to party outdoors, right under the stars and among the trees.

The dance floor overlooks the Giardini Margherita lake and from May to as long as the weather permits the disco offers several evenings from Tuesday to Saturday. The kind of music offered is different but the intention is to enjoy the nightlife in one of the most beautiful parks in the city center!

Matis

The Matis is one of the most popular places in the Bolognese nightlife. The disco was born in 1988 and is proposed both as a disco and as a restaurant. It is possible to book the entrance, and a table for dinner.

The musical genres offered vary from ambient to jazz and there is no shortage of evenings with live performances. Over the years the club has seen at its console some of the best Italian DJs and many international stars including: Frankie Knuckles, Satoshi Tomiie and Tony Humphries.

The Link is located on the outskirts of Bologna and is undoubtedly one of the reference points for those who love to have fun. The structure is that of a former cinema and has more than 4000 square meters in which to party and dance until dawn.

More than a disco, the Link defines itself as a “self-managed space”, in fact the association has proposed itself as a multifunctional laboratory. In addition to clubbing, the structure hosts many events of theater, music, cinema as well as training courses and workshops in collaboration with important Italian and international realities.

Covo Club

The Covo Club is more a place to listen to live music than a disco, however there is no lack of events with DJ sets and clubbing is part of the artistic proposal.

Located on the outskirts within the Casalone park in the San Donnino area, the hideout boasts one of the oldest buildings in the neighborhood as its headquarters.

Giostrà

A now disused workshop and now transformed into one of the most beautiful clubs in Bologna. The Giostrà is spread over three levels and has a total of about 1,000 square meters. The main hall houses a stage on which they often sell proposed live concerts.

The Giostrà nightclub is the perfect location for those who love live music and good food as the audio systems are absolutely state-of-the-art and the cuisine is of an excellent standard.

For those who want to reach the place by car, it is good to know that outside there is a large parking area which is however not guarded.

Freakout

Il freakout è un club dalle dimensioni modeste che tuttavia si è fatto un nome nella cultura underground bolognese tanto da diventare un riferimento per molti amanti della nightlife.

Il locale presenta una doppia anima, il suo programma prevede da una parte serate di musica dal vivo e appuntamenti con band punk di fama internazionale in alternanza a setate dedicate alla musica elettronica.

The freakout is a modestly sized club that has nevertheless made a name for itself in the Bolognese underground culture, so much so that it has become a reference for many nightlife lovers.

The venue has a double soul, its program includes live music evenings and appointments with internationally renowned punk bands alternating with evening dedicated to electronic music.

Millennium

The Millennium is one of the few clubs still active in the city center. The place is a Circolo Arci, to have a card to enter. There are numerous evenings that have now made history such as “Rockcity night” and “Decadence” as well as those dedicated to the music of the 90s.
